Desert Foxes among world’s top 16, to take on Germany

CURITIBA (Brazil)- Algeria’s football team are now in the world’s top 16 after qualifying for the first time in its history to the World Cup knockout stage after snatching the draw against Russia (1-1) Thursday in Curitiba, in the third match of Group H. The Fennecs who achieved a resounding victory against South Korea (4-2) needed a draw against the Russians to validate their ticket the Round of 16 in their fourth participation in the biggest football tournament.

Khalida Toumi in Tunis on 6 April to bring back Mask of Gorgon

In Germany, however, it remains largely unknown, despite its high quality and its outstanding directors and actors. Sixty years after the start of the Algerian war of independence, the festival’s feature and documentary films trace Algeria’s political and cinematic lines of development. Productions from the last seven years, comprising the majority of the selected films, attest to the intensity with which Algeria continues to grapple with issues of colonialism, the war of liberation, and the 1990s civil war with Islamists and the military.
